In Kim Thúy's evocative and poetic novel, The Color Of Air, the lives of two women from different worlds intertwine in a poignant and unforgettable way. Việt, a Vietnamese woman who has fled her homeland, meets Vanessa, a Canadian woman who is struggling to come to terms with her grief over the loss of her husband. As their paths cross, Việt and Vanessa find solace in each other's company, and they begin to discover the strength and resilience that lies within them.
Thúy's writing is both beautiful and heartbreaking, and she paints a vivid and moving portrait of the immigrant experience. Việt's journey to Canada is filled with both hope and sorrow, and she must learn to navigate a new culture and language while also coming to terms with the loss of her family and her homeland. Vanessa, too, is struggling to find her place in the world after the death of her husband, and she finds herself drawn to Việt's strength and resilience.
As Việt and Vanessa's friendship deepens, they begin to share their stories with each other. They talk about their childhoods, their dreams, and their fears. They also talk about their losses, and they find comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their grief. Through their conversations, Việt and Vanessa come to realize that they are both survivors, and they find the strength to move on with their lives.
