Early life and career

Jane Marie Lynch was born on July 14, 1960, in Evergreen Park, Illinois. She is the daughter of Frank Lynch, a banker, and Eileen Lynch, a homemaker. Lynch has two older sisters, Kathleen and Emily. Lynch attended Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois, where she was a member of the drama club. After graduating from high school, Lynch attended Illinois State University, where she studied theater. Lynch graduated from Illinois State University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater.

After graduating from college, Lynch moved to Chicago, where she began her acting career. Lynch performed in several stage productions in Chicago, including The Second City and Steppenwolf Theatre Company. In 1993, Lynch made her film debut in the independent film Trial and Error. Lynch continued to appear in small roles in films and television shows throughout the 1990s.

Breakthrough role

Lynch's breakthrough role came in 2009, when she was cast as Sue Sylvester in the musical comedy-drama series Glee. Sue is the cheerleading coach at William McKinley High School, and she is known for her sharp wit and her ruthless determination to win.
